For the Love of Music

Theirs is an inspiring story. Rea and Ella Beacock both loved music and were gifted musicians.

Ella was a well known pianist and a piano teacher and performed at both Massey Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Rea had a beautiful baritone voice and also played piano.

Both sang for many years in the Beacon Choristers, an ensemble of singers with vision loss that performed throughout Ontario and on CBC radio.

Rea and Ella each lived with vision loss. They met at the School for the Blind, now known as the W. Ross Macdonald School in Brantford, Ontario. They married in 1939.

After Ella's death in 1976, Rea volunteered at the CNIB Music Library for more than 10 years.

Music gave Rea and Ella great joy. As a lasting memorial to Ella, Rea decided to share that joy with others who face the challenges of vision loss by creating an endowment fund which would provide music scores in Braille.

Rea's family added his name to the Fund's title after his passing, in 1997.

The Beacock family continues to keep the memory of Rea and Ella alive by celebrating and honouring their lives through this Fund.

You are invited to share in their love of music by making a donation to the Rea and Ella Beacock Memorial Fund. The monies generated from this fund go towards adding Braille music to the CNIB library.
